Week One of Fun with Fabric with Donna Downey

First Project is complete!! I LOVE how it came out! Week One's project was the canvas camera bag from Donna Downey's canvas line. I had puchased it a while ago before I signed up for this class. I also had bought an iron on from her collection and a few other things.. I decided to use what I had which generally makes me a bit more creative :) Thinking outside of the box, I watched the first video and then just absorbed it all. I started the project the next morning. I decided that I would choose my colors of the bag to accent the iron on I had bought. Now in the video, Donna had used 2 shades of the same color..I didn't have 2 of the turquois color I wanted to use..so I went to the next level and began to mix colors together to see waht I could achieve. I ended up using a color called Calypso Sky by Folk Art with a touch of a green called Celery by Making Memories. I painted the whole bag this base color..Then to choose the contrasting color..I admit I was a little aprehensive about it. I had bought a tube of quinacridone magenta that I had seen Donna Downey use many times on different projects..It's a dark, deep pink. Would it be too dark?? Would it be too bold?? Well, I went for it!! Armed with my water bottle and my paint I began to color the bottom of the bag and spraying it with water to get it to bleed into the fabric!! I loved it immediately! I learned that nothing is a mistake when it comes to art!!
Here are pictures of the final project..

I added some bling with my I Tool by Imaginisce and some Prima flowers (Pink). The green ones are from a silk flower arrangement I tore apart. I sprayed them with Electric blue Glimmer Mist by tattered angels to make them more blue-green!

Don't be afraid to go out on a limb and jump out of your box! You may be surprised and love what you create!
